A/W 2012 Trend: Precious Coats

Matches Fashion A/W Trend 2012: Coats

We all need a coat for winter (unless you reside in Florida or Arizona).  Technically your coat from last year should work just fine but if you want to be on-trend, then go for outerwear that offers a bit of embellishment that may be slightly more than you want for a daytime look, or an asymmetrical hemline.

What I love and hate about this trend:

  • (+) The coat would work for your evening affairs as well given it's slightly dressier
  • (+) Just everyone can participate since we need an overcoat
  • (-) It's a bit of overkill if you already have a coat you love
  • (-) It's an investment that will have you stunning them when you walk in but your outfit underneath needs to be equally fab!

Any/every designer or brand will create something to cover up, so choose wisely.  Our advice:

  1. Make sure your coat hits at least to mid-thigh to get maximum use
  2. The color camel will never go out of fashion but if you want bright/different, white or a jewel tone will create instant pop!
  3. To avoid looking like a wholly mammoth, ensure there is an element of fit (like a fitted upper half, or mushroom-shaped that comes in at the bottom)

I'm digging on these overcoats this year {although I'm not participating in this trend}:

That was utterly unhelpful. Anyone remember the time coats didn’t have some embellishment? I sure don’t. Love the pros and cons “+If you don’t have a coat -if you already do have a coat. loz” People get paid to do this?

Nicole- I do remember many time when the simple, understated coat was in and wasn’t about the little embellishments. I hate that it wasn’t helpful but thanks for your feedback.
