This can be a tricky thing because the average "working girl" today uses one bag and that bag has to work as her tote and handbag....for the entire week.

While I don't advocate it, if you're looking for dual functionality then a satchel is the way to go: enough to carry your essentials, a small clutch [that doubles as an after-work bag], an ipad, a magazine, and perhaps a shoe bag with flip flops. My second and equally as important recommendation is the color - go with a light neutral and my personal favorite is cognac/leather/english saddle!

Would you be surprised that I turned up three great options that I am equally in love with?

  1. glasgow satchel, $198 ~ I'm already in love with Madewell and I actually have this same satchel (in navy, of course!); it's able to be monogrammed....[which I did] and is the perfect size to go all day and into the weekend [30% off with code YOUCHOOSE]
  2. amanda satchel, $198~ this one is grey but, behind black this is your go-to neutral! The light grey will lighten up your dark tones and complement your more vibrants - not to mention Liebeskind is a terrifically affordable brand!
  3. Massimo Dutti satchel, $198 ~ it's the most conservative of the bunch and the most structured but the perfect color!
  4. 'fighter' leather satchel, $1,690 ~ I've been a longtime admirer of Reed Krakoff and while I can't scoop this puppy now, a girl can cream....yes?

I'm still hanging on to a few of my cognac bags that I've accumulated over the years so no new ones but, if I had my dream, that Reed Krakoff would be sitting next to me right now.....

Which is your new spring satchel?
