Creating the Ideal ‘Date Night’ Closet

Creating the Ideal ‘Date Night’ Closet

I'm not pulling any punches here -- there are some essential in the savvy woman's wardrobe that will make 'date night' a cinch even if the dude turns out to be a dud!  While there is always room for variation if you're more boho than chic, or more uptown socialite than edgy, the basics are just that.  Take these pieces, add your signature style to them, and you're covered:

  1. Black pumps - pumps/heels are an excellent way to elongate your leg.  Black is the universal go-to color...although a nude/flesh-colored pump can function in nearly the same capacity
  2. Dark metallic/black clutch - it goes with your pumps!  Frankly, a dark metallic can go a little bit further than black....focus more on making it fabulous rather than just functional
  3. Jeans - straight-leg jeans will go from day to evening the easiest, and will create the most streamlined silhouette no matter how much hip you have! The darker the denim, the better when going to dressier outings.
  4. Girly top - even if you're more funk than fashionista, or more downtown than uptown, a girly top can work both sides of the street -- with a fitted leather jacket, it says edgy...with a wide belt, it screams bohemian...with a cardigan, it purrs schoolgirl.
  5. Dress - the jury isn't out on this...opt for a dress that isn't loud.  Let the styling and fit of the dress do more talking than the actual color of the dress.  Demure leaves something to the imagination even if the conversation doesn't.

(blink) Your 'date night' closet has been created.  Mix and match according to the date location although an overcrowded and noisy bar may leave you wanting to save your special pieces for someone else.  If all else fails, the last piece to add to your 'date night' ensemble is a preset "urgent call" that allows for a speedy yet stylish exit just in case!!
