Are you planning one last hoorah for the year? A long weekend getaway before you release your fast, fleeting memories of summer? If so, try Palm Springs, CA!

It's a haul but worth the trip....it will remind you of the 'good life' of little or no traffic, warm days, cool evenings, a laid back personality that belongs to the entire region, great eats, and glimpses of what your life could be (if you didn't live in the "city").

I went for a five day, four night respite a couple of weeks ago and I came back only slightly jet lagged but very refreshed!! The accommodations vary but I holed up at one of Starwood's newest resorts, the Westin Desert Willow Villas - clean, well thought out, relaxing, and a pool (really three...) that's open 24 hours!

Cheeky's

The highlight of the vacation was eating, not shopping (side eye, right?). I checked out three spots and I would recommend you try all of them: Cheeky's for breakfast (I'm a breakfast fiend!), Bill's Pizza, and Cliff House.

Be careful when you head to Cheeky's - check their hours (I went one morning only to find out they were closed). Once you get there, be careful too...because they have a bacon bar! I indulged in two types of bacon and feel in love with the brown sugar/coffee flavored bacon.... The organic coffee and brioche French toast didn't hurt either...

Bill's Pizza has the notiriety of being a "World Finalist" in the International Pizza Expo - and once you taste the pizza, you'll know why. One word - delicious! I went traditional with pepperoni and wasn't disappointed at all. The place is laid back and inconspicuous....don't miss it!

PS7

Cliff House has great food but an even better outdoor space. Take the winding stairs and hang out on the outdoor patio to enjoy the evening breeze, some yummy pasta and an fairly robust wine list.

Overall, two thumbs up on the location (if you need a little more exercise, opt for a day trip to the Mojave Desert).

I wanna go back....
